Students are learning a strategy that helps them understand the WHY behind the standard algorithm that they will learn eventually. When students learn the shortcut before understanding the place value, it causes them to make simple mistakes and will cause them to struggle to multiple and divide larger numbers as they progress into harder math classes. Homework Yearbook Orders Order forms for yearbooks and ads in the yearbook came home in Friday folders today. Monday-Music Tuesday- Kindness Week Activity Wednesday-Gym Thursday- Tech. Friday- Library Homework was due today and a new packet will come home on Monday. WHAT WAS HAPPENING THIS WEEK…. ELA We started the week by finishing our study of text structures for informational text. We worked on the Problem/Solution and Chronology text structures. We finished the week by beginning our study of important people in African American History. In writing we started out 4 H demonstration writing pieces. MATH We continued our module on multiplying larger numbers using partial products. We ended the week multiplying 2 -digit numbers by 2 -digit numbers and solving multi -step word problems that involve multiplication of larger numbers. We will take our multiplication test next Wednesday. SCIENCE/SS We began our Science unit on Waves this week. We discussed vocabulary that goes along with waves such as frequency, wavelength and equilibrium.
