HEBREWS 12: 14 -17
HEBREWS 12: 14 -17 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears. Heb 12: 14 -17
HEBREWS 12: 14 -17 ÜPursue peace with everyone. ü In times of disagreement look for points of agreement and build from that rather than setting out to “win” or “punish”. ü Keep your anger in check. ü Speak calmly and softly. ü Pray for the other person.
HEBREWS 12: 14 -17 ÜSecond, we are to pursue holiness. ü Practically, how do you go about pursuing holiness? ü Read the Bible and when you read a command, prayerfully obey it. ü Ask God to help you to hunger for Him rather than the things that are made by Him. ü Spend much time with the Lord. ü Confront your excuses and justifications. ü Find some mentors.
Things to Avoid - (Hebrews 12: 14 -17) ü First we must guard against being indifferently selfabsorbed. ü Second, we need to guard against a “poisonous root of bitterness that grows up to trouble you and corrupt many. ü Control your anger. ü Focus on God’s love and sovereignty. ü Practice forgiveness.
Third, we need to guard against drifting into an Unfaithful Heart. 16 that no one is immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17 You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears.
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. - Rom 1: 24 -25
