Industrial Strategy • 5 foundations to improve productivity

Clean Growth Strategy • One of the Industrial Strategy ‘Grand Challenges’

Heat is the biggest source of carbon emissions Estimated UK emissions attributed to heat, 2015 PUBLIC & COMMERCIAL HEAT = 7%

… but heat networks can help • Reduce emissions • Reduce bills • Increase resilience • Increase flexibility

Greening Government

Local Authorities and heat networks The energy system is transforming and becoming more decentralised as we decarbonise. Local authorities have a key role to play. • Slide 2: energy context – decentralisation, local authority role in this

Reducing carbon, reducing cost…

…and, uniquely, utilising waste heat • Water, air, ground • Buildings • Electrical infrastructure • Industrial waste heat • Energy from waste • Tube ventilation shaft
