Heart rate
Heart rate The normal pulse for healthy adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute.
The Heart rate may increase with exercise, illness, injury, and emotions. Girls ages 12 and older and women, in general, tend to have faster heart rates than do boys and men.
Does heart rate go higher with exercise?
Pulse rate Your heart is a pump which pumps blood out around your body through your arteries. You can feel the blood pumping where the arteries are close to your skin.
Pulse rate As your heart pumps blood through your body, you can feel a pulsing in some of the blood vessels close to the skin's surface, such as in your wrist, neck, or upper arm. Counting your heart rate is a simple way to find out how fast your heart is beating.
Heart rate Your pulse is the rate at which your heart beats. Your pulse is usually called your heart rate, which is the number of times your heart beats each minute (bpm). Changes in your heart rate may be caused by heart disease or another problem. Measuring your HR is a very useful way to determine many body disorders especially heart diseases.
How to take your pulse 1. Place the tips of your index, second, and third fingers on the palm side of your other wrist, below the base of the thumb. Or, place the tips of your index and second fingers on your lower neck, on either side of your windpipe. 2. Press lightly with your fingers until you feel the blood pulsing beneath your fingers. You might need to move your fingers around slightly up or down until you feel the pulsing. 3. Use a stopwatch 4. Count the beats you feel for 10 seconds. Multiply this number by six to get your heart rate (pulse) per minute.
Check your HR or pulse: ________ x 6 = ________ (beats in 10 seconds) (your HR or pulse)
Example Pulse rate after exercise Heart beat At rest After running 2 mins later 4 mins later 6 mins later 8 mins later Time 60 120 100 84 70 64
