INTRODUCTION • Renewing the Ministry of the Word of God • Our Scripture Reading Began with “Hear the Word of the Lord!” • Did it make a difference? • Tonight , we’ll examine 3 Witnesses, 4 Reasons, and 3 Truths
THREE WITNESSES • Witness of Jesus • Witness of Paul • Witness of the writer of Hebrews
WITNESS OF JESUS • • John 6: 25 – 65 Jesus is the source of real life He expects us to respond in faith to him. Any other reaction to the hearing of God’s Word is unbelief and your rejection of God’s message.
THE WITNESS OF PAUL I Timothy 4: 13 Public reading of scripture with preaching and teaching are tied to Paul’s instruction to Timothy to live a Godly life as an example to his congregation. • Implication is that the ministry of the word was to bring transformation to both Timothy and the church. • •
THE WITNESS OF THE WRITER OF HEBREWS • The context is that Israel refused to hear the word of the Lord. • The passage gives us 4 reasons not repeat the mistakes of the children of Israel.
4 REASONS • • It is a Living Word It is a Powerful Word It is a Penetrating Word It is a Discerning Word
3 TRUTHS • God Sees Everything: There is No Escape • God Sees Everything: This is No Hiding • God Sees Everything: There is No Excuse
