Healthy Eating Habits!
Food Pyramid
Grains • • Largest food group! Suggested servings : 6 or more a day! Benefits: Full of fiber and keeps you full! Examples: bread, rice, and cereal
Fruits and Veggies • Suggested servings: 4 or more a day! • Benefits: provide many vitamins and minerals • Examples: bananas, berries, carrots, and celery
Dairy • Suggested servings: 3 a day • Benefits: strong bones! • Examples: milk, yogurt, cheese
Meats/Proteins • Suggested serving: 2 a day • Benefits: builds up, maintains, and replaces tissues in your body! • Examples: fish, eggs, beans
Sweets (others) • Smallest group! • Suggested servings: as few as possible! • These are where your candy, soft drinks, and desserts are! A treat every now and then is fine, but remember not too eat too much of them!
Importance • Good lifelong eating habits! • More likely to stay healthy, reduces risk of sickness and disease! • Helps maintain a healthy weight!
Personal Health Habits!
Sleeping Habits • Sleep is very important as you grow into a big kid! • Always remember to go to bed at your bedtime! • Benefits: 10 -12 hours of sleep will help you in school, sports, and many other things you love `
Hand Washing • Best way to keep from getting sick and spreading nasty germs! • ALWAYS wash hands after going to bathroom and playing outside. • ALWAYS wash hands before eating or touching your face. • When washing hands make sure to wash with soap and warm water and count to at least 20
Bath time! • Showering is just as important as washing your hands! • You must shower one or two times a day to ensure that you are washing away all the germs on your whole body! • Make sure you wash your entire body with soap and hair with shampoo!
TEETH • Brush your teeth twice a day • Floss at least once a day, ask a parent to help you if you need too! • Make sure your going to the dentist for regular check ups! • Benefits: Preventing cavities!
