Win-Win: A simple, six step process • Recruit your local organizing team • Pick a local target – government entity, business, institution like a hospital or university • Gather information about your target: budget; annual payroll; annual amount spent on employee health benefits; info about its budget crisis • Calculate an estimate of the savings your target will realize • Prepare a simple, one-page fact sheet to show the savings to potential allies, elected officials, business owners, etc. • Follow through and win your target’s endorsement for HR 676 and state single-payer legislation

When calculating savings … • Focus on savings from employee health benefits • Use a range of estimated savings based on a 4. 5% to a 9. 0% employer payroll contribution • This range accounts for these variables: - HR 676 doesn’t specify payroll contributions, but 4. 5% is based on Healthcare-NOW’s 2008 NHE review - Other state and federal single payer bills generally fall in this range - Everyone doesn’t agree on the amount of our national health care budget that should come from payroll taxes versus other taxes and sources
