What is Health Science Academy? ● APEX Learning ● ● ● Job Shadowing Community Health Event Organization Guest Lecturers College Prep Much more TBD as year progresses. . .

APEX Learning ● ● ● Serves as the basis for the class. Teaches students independent learning. Teaches vocabulary necessary for the medical profession. 50% of student’s grade. Can be done at home. I use it to pre-teach important concepts that will be discussed in job shadowing and/or future class projects.

Job Shadowing ● We have a partnership with the hospital for students to get hands-on experience. ● One day per week to every other week. ● There is a lot of paperwork needed to job shadow. ○ Signed permission from you ○ Vaccination records ○ Flu Shot (optional, but students who do not opt to have one must wear a mask and have a signed slip) ○ Quantiferon TB Test - it is free at the hospital

Community Health and Event ● Blood Drive. Organizing twice per year ○ September 18 th from 8: 30 -2: 00 for anybody interested. Ask your student for the link to sign up. ○ We will do another one in the spring.
