Health Education Standards 2008

AAHE: K-12 National Health Education Standards Students will gain knowledge and experiences throughout the year during their Health education that will fulfill the objectives of the eight National Health Education Standards as written by the American Association of Health Education. Following are the eight standards:

AAHE Standards 1. Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health. 2. Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology and other factors on health behaviors. 3. Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health. 4. Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

AAHE Standards 5. Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health. 6. Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health. 7. Students will demonstrate the ability to practice healthenhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks. 8. Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family and community health.

NCATE: Health Education Teacher Preparation Standards 2008 Standards Standard I: Content Knowledge. Candidates demonstrate the knowledge and skills of a health literate educator. Standard II: Needs Assessment: Candidates assess needs to determine priorities for school health education Standard III: Planning: Candidates plan effective comprehensive school health education curricula Standard IV: Implementation: Candidates implement health education instruction and programs.
