Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) Employer Responsibilities Employee Responsibilities The employer should: § Provide and maintain centres, equipment and work systems ensuring they are safe and do not pose a risk to health § Provide safe storage, handling and use of substances which could cause risk to health. These may include the cleaning fluids for the pool, sports hall etc… § Provide appropriate information, instruction and training for employees in all areas of work including first aid and customer care § Ensure the workplace is monitored and maintained in a safe condition. Full risk assessments of the sporting facilities will be carried as well as frequent check by the centre staff.

These may include ensuring frequent risk assessments are completed before customers use the facilities. § Co-operate with the employer and other relevant organisations to ensure the requirements of the act are met. Cleaning staff for example must follow the COSHH guidelines when maintaining the facility. § Not misuse equipment provided to maintain health and safety
