Buckley is home to the 460 Space Wing, the Colorado Air National Guard, the Navy Operation Support Center, the Aerospace Data Facility, the Army Aviation Support Facility, and the Air Reserve Personnel Center as well as many other tenant units. The Buckley Civilian Personnel Section services approximately 660 Air Force civilian employees assigned to the installation. Common Access Card (CAC) UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE A CAC allows you access to your computer and to Buckley Air Force Base. How do you get your CAC? STEP 1 – See your Unit Security Manager to initiate your security investigation and schedule Finger Prints with Steven Lobato, Wing IP. STEP 2 – AFPC Staffing must process the request for personnel action (RPA) to generate your SF-50, “Notification of Personnel Action. ” STEP 3 – Approximately 72 hours after the SF-50 is processed, your personnel data interfaces from DCPDS to the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). The supervisor will receive the SF 50 via email. STEP 4 – See your Unit Security Manager to obtain a local CAC Verification Form. You must have a released investigation to OPM and Favorable Finger Print results to get your CAC Verification form. STEP 4 – Go to the Military Personnel Flight (MPF), Bldg. 606, with the CAC Verification Form and SF 50 along with two forms of Identification to obtain the CAC. The Military Personnel Flight telephone # 720 -847 -HELP (4357). Appointments should not be made until 3 to 4 days AFTER in-processing. Your Appointment and What it Means to You UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE 9 n Career-Conditional Appt - The conditional appointment is for three years, after which time you are automatically converted to a career appointment if no break-in-service has occurred. n Career – These appointments are given automatically to careerconditional employees who have completed three years of continuous, satisfactory service (without a break of 30 days or more). n Excepted – These appointments are given to employees who perform work of a specialized nature or are hired under a special placement program.
Your Appointment and What it Means to You UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE n Temporary/Term Appt – Given for a limited time. Temporary appointments are for one year or less with no benefits offered. Ø Term appointments are appointments lasting more than one year but less than four years with benefits. Ø Eligibility for a permanent appointment does not come from a temporary/term appointment. 10
Your Appointment and What it Means to You UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE n 11 Provisional - If you came on as a 30% or more disabled veteran, known as a Provisional Appointment, it is important to know that your appt must be converted to career-conditional prior to the not-to-exceed date listed on your SF 50 (normally one year). This conversion can be done as soon as your supervisor determines that you are able to perform the duties of the position, but must be done before the NTE date or you will fall off the rolls. The time in your provisional appointment does not count towards career status. You must still serve three years once converted to career conditional.
UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE 12 Probation Period n Under the Competitive Service; Probationary Period statute, an appointment in the competitive service is not final until after any required probationary period is complete. The purpose of a probationary period is to provide the appropriate supervisor an opportunity to evaluate the individual's conduct and performance on the job to determine if an appointment should become final. n All new Federal employees appointed within the Department of Defense (Do. D) to permanent positions in the competitive service are required to serve a two-year probationary period. The requirement for new employees to serve a two-year probationary period is a change to the previous requirement to serve a one-year period and is retroactive to appointments made on or after 26 November 2015. n The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 amended Title 10, United States Code (U. S. C. ), by adding Section 1599 e. This section requires that the appointment of "covered employees" within the Do. D shall become final only after the employee has served a probationary period of two years.

Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE MRA - The age at which you can first retire. Please also refer to the Minimum Retirement Age table for retirement eligibility. The minimum retirement age (MRA) for FERS employees is based on year of birth. Determining when a civilian employee can retire is complicated. To qualify for a Voluntary Optional (immediate, unreduced) retirement, you must meet the age and service requirements in the following tables. For both CSRS and Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) employees, at least 5 years of the total creditable service must be civilian service. CSRS employees must be subject to CSRS for 1 out of the last 2 years of service before the date of separation on which the retirement is based, and FERS employees must be covered by FERS on the day of separation.
