Heading – A Doll’s House 4 A doll’s house is a story of ‘blackmail’. Write what you understand by this word. (You shall see an example on pages 30 -31 - Nora and Krogstad)
Objective �We shall examine Krogstad in detail today – his reasons, his motivations, his character.
Character: Krogstad – this man used to be a lawyer but “slipped up” and now works in a bank. In this novel, who your family are is very important so a bad reputation affects those you love. His bad reputation could stop his sons getting jobs. (Why does who your father is matter to people here? ) He sees an opportunity to keep his job here.
Reading pages 32 - 35 �Roles: �Krogstad �Nora (Volunteers): �(Children – three lines)
The reflective response reading journal I’m going to put quotes that summarise what just happened. Krogstad: The law’s not interested in reasons Nora: Then it’s a fool. “If I lose everything a second time, you keep me company” (What do you think will happen next, what will Nora do? ) Write down any thoughts, questions, opinions. Head looking at book, board or reflective journal – not at other students.
Exam Question notes v Character: Krogstad is not a simple, evil character. He does not act out of greed and he is aware of a woman’s influence over husband. v As the play continues, Krogstad will be portrayed as a good man doing the wrong thing.
