Hazards in the Home • Did you know that most accidents and injuries occur due to carelessness! • Many of these could be avoided by keeping the building free from hazards. • Task: – In pairs share your ideas of what you think are hazards? (Write your ideas down so that we can share them with the rest of the class).

Hazards in the Home • As you can see from the previous slide there are several potential hazards around the bedroom. • What other fire hazards could there be in the home?

Hazards in the Home Electrical: • Only use one plug per socket. • Put

Hazards in the Home Electrical: • Only use one plug per socket. • Put safety covers on all unused sockets. • Never put fingers or anything else other than a plug in a socket. • When unplugging an appliance pull the plug not the cord. • Don’t run cables under carpets as they could trip someone. • Make sure all electrical appliances are switched off when not in use, especially last thing at night. • Don’t use an appliance (e. g. hairdryer) when you have wet hands or are in water. • When using electrical hairstyling equipment make sure it is not left near flammable material while it is still on.

Hazards in the Home Candles: • Don’t leave them unattended. • Put them out completely at night. • Keep candles away from anything that could catch fire such as curtains, cards etc. • Always put candles and tea lights in a suitable heat resistant stable holder. • Keep them out of the reach of young children and pets.
