What Do School Counselors Do? ü Career Counseling ü Provide resources for career exploration & planning ü Provide college counseling, which includes: ü College admissions, financial aid, & scholarship information ü Assist with resume writing & career portfolios
What Do School Counselors Do? ü Personal/Social Counseling ü Help you with any personal problems that you may be experiencing at school or home or with your friends. ü Arrange Peer Mediation ü Provide information for additional community resources when needed.

How Can You Communicate with Us? ü Email us! If you have a quick question, it is easiest for us to send you a response via email. ü Leave us a voicemail. ü If you have an urgent matter that needs to be discussed right away, our office is ALWAYS open!
How Can You Communicate with Us? ü Arrange an appointment with us online. ü Here’s how: ü Login to your school Google email. ü Go to the Hayes Website and click on Guidance. ü Click on your counselor’s name & enter your name in an open appt slot (preferably during your lunch, study hall or Academic Options period). Provide a brief description of why you’re coming to see us & then come see us during that time. ü If you need a pass in the morning, please see Mrs. Estes or Mrs. Gliebe. You will not be called down.
How Do We Communicate with You? ü Check your school Google email frequently. We will be sending you information (typically college, scholarship, or other special program information) often. ü Sign up for the Hayes Hoofprints on the school website. Biweekly information and announcements will be sent to you about upcoming events at Hayes. ü Remind 101 – Take out your cell phones and text @tracer to 216 -672 -5870
How Do We Communicate with You? ü Check the Announcements on the Guidance website. ü If we need to speak to you, we will call you down. However, we really try to avoid you missing class time. We will call you down during your study hall or at the end of a class period. ü Throughout the year, we will have special presentations during Academic Option to keep you up to date on important information.
What are you responsible for? ü We are the keepers of lots of information and we do our best to get that information to you, but remember that the person who has the biggest stake in your academics is you. It's up to you to stay on top of opportunities and deadlines so you can take control of your future.
A Note About Schedule Changes… ü Changes were to be made by August 12, and therefore no changes will be made unless there has been a clerical error on our part!
Junior Year To Do List - Credits ü Make sure you have the credits you need to finish in 2016. ü Work toward improving or maintaining your GPA. The end of the Junior year GPA is the GPA sent on your college applications. ü Start thinking about your senior classes – we will schedule in January and February.
Junior Year To Do List - Testing ü Take the PSAT on October 15 th. ü OGT retakes starting October 27 th. ü Register to take the ACT or SAT at least once in the spring. ü AP testing in the spring.
Junior Year To Do List – Other Stuff ü Keep your focus on your classes. ü Start or continue your college search – schedule visits this year. ü Attend college fairs or informational events in the area and at Hayes. ü NCAA eligibility – the rules have changed – talk to your counselor about the rules and registering with the eligibility center. ü REMEMBER! Your counselor has almost 400 students to monitor…you have 1.
