HOW TO DEAL WITH HATE CRIMES/ INCIDENTS • Listen, Clarify, Check • If it is an incident that does not fit any of the hate crime criteria, but is hate related submit a NON CRIME REPORT (If you are unsure of what offence has been committed submit a non crime report – It can always be changed to a crime at a later date) • If it is a crime incident, record and deal with it as you would any other incident (Primary investigation) • If crime, prioritise investigation • Ask CRU to make the Hate Crime DS (North & South) And ensure report is marked “HATE” • Update the CMS record before going off duty.
