Harvard Phone Program Overview Harvard Phone will replace Harvard’s legacy telephony service and provide modern, flexible, easyto-use, communications tools with self service portals and support for mobility Program Scope Services Offered Goals & Objectives • @24, 000 admin/faculty phones • Desk phones, soft phones, cell phones • Reduce legacy infrastructure & lines • Student, fax, emergency, elevator, call center lines remain on legacy service • Support for BYOP • Offer simple service packages • Desktop video and Web conferencing (phase II) • Empower schools and users w/self-service tools • End user & Admin self service portals • Simplify provisioning & billing models • Voice-Over-IP cloud based Verizon offering, powered by Cisco • Implementation & Training services • Focus on communications and outreach • University cost savings over time 2

Jabber Soft Phone Use Harvard Phone • Headsets or adjunct devices are recommended for use w/Jabber – See phone. harvard. edu for a list of devices; order through Gov. Connect/HCOM • Jabber over Wi-Fi and Cellular Data – Jabber uses the data network for voice calls – Jabber use over carrier Cellular Data plans increases data usage and may increase data costs – We recommend using Jabber over Wi-Fi networks where available – Performance and quality of Jabber calls over Wi-Fi and Cellular Data networks vary • Emergency dialing is not supported on Jabber clients – Do not dial 911 from Jabber Soft Phone 10
