Happy New Year everybody and welcome back Maple
Happy New Year everybody and welcome back! Maple Class: Miss Artuner Mrs Davis I hope you have had an excellent Christmas and a superb New Year and excited to return to school and continue your learning! Our next topic will last the full term and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! We will be learning all about our local area of Lancashire and comparing it with our capital city of London. Over the next 8 weeks we will learn all about the different continents of the world and begin to focus on The UK, learning which countries make up the UK and locating different cities and their counties within through the use of maps, atlas’ and the internet. We will look at the growth of Lancashire and London over time and compare famous landmarks. We will continue using the class reward system Dojo. Children will collect points linked to our schools core values which are Resilience, Respect, Self-Belief and Active and Healthy. If you ever have any queries, worries or would like anything explaining, please don't hesitate to contact me. Please feel free to contact me through the Dojo system or at the end of the school day, and I will respond to your query or set up a time to speak in person. Our Science focus for this half term is Forces and Magnets. We will learn what force is, what force is measured in, what magnets are and test how magnets behave when put together. • • • In English, we will be starting the year by learning about Aesop’s Fables. Through the use of rehearsing, acting and a variety of other skills we will write our own Fables which teach lessons. Things to remember… Our P. E. lesson this half term will be on a Tuesday Morning. Please could you ensure that children are wearing the correct P. E. kits. Spellings will be completed every Friday due to the change in PE day- the spellings are updated weekly on Spelling Shed and put into Class Dojo. Times-Tables will continue alongside Spellings and will be completed every Friday. Home reading books will be changed every day. Parents are encouraged to hear their child read as much as possible. We expect children to read at least 3 times per week. If you would like to buy a healthy snack it is £ 1 per week, this can be payable each Monday or you can pay £ 6 for the half term. Guided Reading will continue to be done using a whole class approach and this half term we will continue reading ‘Charlotte’s Web’ The children will read out loud answer questions in their Guided Reading books using inference, explanation and summarising skills. In Maths this half term, we will continue looking at Multiplication and Division through a variety of methods. After this unit, we will move on to Money. Children should work hard to learn their times tables at home. Please use TT Rockstars to do this. Please also take advantage of Doodle Maths, which has lots of fun activities.
