3 Corners, 3 Priorities Students don’t know their progress as writers in response to literature. They aren’t invested in their writing in response to literature goals and they aren’t steadily improving Students aren’t getting to talk to each other in partners & groups to carry larger and larger amounts of the reading & thinking in class. OR Students’ talk isn’t helping Ss think deeper about reading & writing— instead it’s leading to some less Students aren’t making appropriate growth on statetest aligned assessments, such that they aren’t on track to EITHER perform better on the state test than they did last year OR at least proficient 5

4 Corners, 4 Realities You haven’t given the Gates/ another reading level test again in the middle of the year, so you & your Ss aren’t clear on reading -level-progress yet. You’ve given it but not graded/ tracked it yet (basically, you & your kids don’t know how they’re doing, yet, but you could figure it out quickly) You’ve given it, shared results with Ss but haven’t changed any of your practices yet because of the results. You’ve given it, shared results with Ss, & made a few changes to your class structures/ expectations because of the data. 8
