Control & Manipulation of Information
Dystopian societies = controlling government. • Gilead is authoritarian theocracy. • Authoritarian - favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom. • Theocracy - government by divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided. In many theocracies the state's legal system is based on religious law. One way they gain control & power is by controlling & manipulating information. How? Discuss with group some ways that governments, companies, religious organizations, control or manipulate information so as to manipulate people.

For Tomorrow Think of something the Gilead government wants to accomplish. What kind of meme/poster might they create to convince people? Tomorrow class will be in the library computer lab. Pretending to be Gilead, you will create a digital propaganda poster.
