Expectations
What constitutes full-time study? • Registered for 8 hours of credit (fall, spring and summer terms) • SAA appointees must register for 6 credit hours during each full semester
Graduate credit Only courses listed in the University Graduate School bulletin or specifically allowed by it may be counted toward the requirements for a degree offered by the University Graduate School. These courses are ordinarily numbered at the 500 level or above. In certain cases, courses at the 300 and 400 level have been specifically approved for graduate credit; all such courses are listed in this bulletin. Normally, a course may not be counted toward degree requirements if it has been completed more than (a) five years prior to the awarding of the degree for master’s students or, (b) seven years prior to the passing of the qualifying examination for Ph. D. students.
Grading policies • Consult the Bulletin for the grading scale • A minimum of a B (3. 0) average required for continuance in graduate study and for all graduate degrees • Courses with grades below a C (2. 0) are not counted toward degree requirements but will count toward the grade point average. • Some departments may require an average grade in graduate courses higher than 3. 0 (or may count no courses with grades below 3. 0)
Academic integrity
Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct Students are expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards in all their course work and research. Individuals violating that code of conduct are subject to disciplinary action; such breaches could lead to expulsion of the student from Indiana University or to recision of a degree already granted To acquaint students more fully with the range of issues relating to academic integrity, The University Graduate School has prepared a document entitled Integrity in Graduate Study. Students should also refer to Indiana University’s Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct at studentcode. iu. edu.
What constitutes academic misconduct? Academic misconduct is any activity that tends to undermine the academic integrity of the institution. It may include, but is not limited to human, hard-copy, or electronic resources, cheating, fabrication, plagiarism, interference, violation of course rules, and facilitating academic misconduct.

Course advising, selection, and registration
Meet with your advisor • Each semester, you will meet with your Graduate Academic Advisor to review your course selections & discuss your academic plan. • Students are responsible for setting up a meeting with their advisors. If you are unsure of who your Graduate Advisor is, please contact your department’s Director of Graduate Studies (DGS). • During your appointment, you and your advisor will fill out an HLS Graduate Advising Form. The Advising Form can be found at hlsgrad. iu. edu. Your advisor will obtain the necessary signatures for your form and send it to hlsgrad@iu. edu for processing. • Once the HLS Graduate Office has received your advising form, they will lift the advising hold, send you a confirmation email, and you can register. • In addition to the HLS Graduate Advising Form, students are required to submit a Progress Report to their Graduate Advisor each semester. A copy of the Progress Report must also be sent to hlsgrad@iu. edu. Please see your department for details.

Where to find the Instruction Mode on the Schedule of Classes
Registration: Fall 2020 • You will register for classes using One. IU one. iu. edu. • To begin Registration, go to One. IU and in the Search Bar type “Class Registration. ” Click on the app and begin registering. • If you need to change your schedule after your initial Registration, use the “Drop or Add Classes” app in One. IU. You can use this app through the 1 st week of classes. • If you need to Drop or Add a Class after the 1 st week of classes, use the “Late Drop/Add Classes” app in One. Even Exchange Policy
Can I drop a course and add another at no additional tuition cost? • If you DROP a course and ADD another course at the same time, for the same number of credits, you can do so at no additional tuition cost. This is known as an "EVEN EXCHANGE. "
Things to remember • Your request to exchange the courses is covered even if your changes occurs after the second week of classes. • Any dropped class must be a full-term class that is subject to the 75 percent refund period during the second week of classes. • You will receive a grade of "W" for any class you drop. • The exchange is only possible if you drop one class and add another class at the same number of credit hours. • If the hours of the class you are adding are greater than the hours of the class you are dropping, you will be charged tuition for the extra credit hours.

Foreign Language & Research Skills
Program dependent 1. Individual departments determine whether foreign languages or research skills or both will be required. 2. Where such requirements exist, students must select the specific language(s) or research skill(s) from those approved by the major department and listed in its statement of departmental requirements. 3. Another language demonstrably useful in the student’s research program may be substituted upon special recommendation of the major department and approval by the dean.
Reading proficiency in a foreign language 1. By achieving an appropriate score on an examination administered on the Bloomington campus by the respective language department. Students should contact the language department for details. 2. By completing, with a grade of B (3. 0) or better, the reading course 492 (e. g. , F 492 for French, G 492 for German). 3. By receiving, in the cases of Catalan, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish, a grade of B (3. 0) or better in a literature or civilization course at Indiana University numbered 300 or higher in which the reading is done in the foreign language.
What if the unexpected happens

Incomplete grades • Only allowable when the completed portion of the student’s work is of passing quality • Satisfy the requirements of the course within one calendar year from the date the Incomplete is recorded • Finish all necessary work in time for the instructor to assign a regular grade before the expiration of the time period • Incomplete will be changed to F after one calendar year.
Withdrawal from course work 1. Withdrawals prior to the “last day to drop a course with an automatic W” (see official calendar for each semester) are automatically marked W. According to university regulations, withdrawal after this date is permitted only with the approval of the dean of the student’s school for urgent reasons related to the student’s health or equivalent distress. 2. In all such cases, the student must submit a request for late withdrawal to the advisor or to the departmental chairperson. This request must be supported by the instructor of the course, the graduate advisor, and the departmental chairperson and then be forwarded to the dean with an accompanying statement outlining the reasons for the request.

Transcripts
Submit your final transcripts 1. If you received your BA or MA degree after you submitted your admission application, we need your final transcript to complete your file. 2. Submit your final official BA or MA transcript noting your degree conferral to: – Office of International Services (international students) – HLS Graduate Administrative Services (domestic students)
Immunizations
Submit your form at One. IU • All incoming IU Bloomington students are required to be immunization compliant. Please review the IU immunization policy to make sure all of your immunizations are up to date. • usss. iu. edu/student-records/immunization • While it does not impact your current enrollment, you will not be allowed to register for subsequent semesters until you are compliant with the IU immunization requirements. • Log into one. iu. edu and go to Immunization Compliance Med+Proctor to submit your information.
