Actually, things changed about 10 years ago HHS received a $9, 000 grant from NW AL RC&D for an on campus weather station We “borrowed” an old greenhouse from another school Stacy Page became Guidance Counselor

Back to Three years ago. AHEN grant awarded What do we do now? Let’s give students opportunities to discover other nontraditional opportunities. How do we do that?

BSCC Offerings The career tech classes have been expanded to include: HVAC Computer Science

Advanced Career Tech Endorsement Spearheaded by Mr. Hollingsworth ALSDE granted the awarding of an Advanced Career Technical Endorsement in 2015 to our 11 th and 12 th students. A waiver of a math and science course in each of the 11 th and 12 th grade years allows students to take dual enrollment tech classes at no cost.

Hamilton High School Green. House Project (HHSGHP) HHS began to use an old greenhouse on campus primarily for transition skills for SPED students in the school 2013 -14. Students raised flowering plants, ferns, mums, vegetables and sold them to the public. The greenhouse was old and in need of repair and enlarging.

HHSGHP cont. HHS applied for and was awarded a $10, 000 grant form NW AL RC&D to remodel the existing greenhouse. Engineering students designed trusses Construction Framing students helped build greenhouse

HHSGHP cont. The “New” greenhouse will: Have auto fertilization and watering Partially operate on solar power Also: Hydroponics in conjunction with Environmental Science Class Horticulture class taught SPED students will still “operate” HHSGHP

Financial Aid Workshops Informational workshops held each year: BSCC and UNA Parents/students in 11 th and 12 th grades

Aggie Branch Built and funded by Local 1 st National Bank Fully operational branch of 1 st National Bank FDIC insured Within building of HHS Operational 2015 -16 during school lunch hour

Aggie Branch Cont. Over 50 new accounts opened Student bank tellers: fully trained by 1 st National Bank Business teacher serves as Branch “Manager” Only service not offered: loans Hope to expand service time to morning before school starts

Where is HHS headed? Continue to offer CTE courses and expand as needed for students to be ready for the workforce in NW Alabama 3 – 5 years 50 - 60 % of students on a CTE track

What about academics? Continue to offer Honors level courses grades 9 – 12 BSCC dual enrollment academic courses expand each year ACT scores continue to increase: four 2016 seniors with 30+ Offering AP Biology and AP History 2016 -17
