Hamburg pipe project status Benoit Florins, Krzysztof Piotrzkowski, Guido Ryckewaert Université Catholique de Louvain • Cryostat design choice: According to Sebastien - keeping standard shape of CC (i. e. external dimensions/structure) and its mechanical integrity (i. e. no danger of having some extra, new forces exerting on adjacent cryostats) is essential We believe that it might be possible also with other solutions not only assuming FP 420 detector system in insulation vacuum Moving pipe project UCLouvain
Use same external tube and cut it to get about 9 m slot with direct access to detectors (and pipes) Add reinforcing ‘ribs’ to make it very stiff (extra covers might be added) Separation between insulation vacuum and detector area is done at each end of slot (where both pipes are fixed) Moving pipe project UCLouvain 2
Minimal solution – cold volumes as proposed by Sebastien (this could be still rearranged, eg. shifted to the right… see next slides) FP 420 zone – could be in the air Inner zone/volume – as proposed by Sebastien Separation wall – between detector and insulation vacuum One of ‘ribs’ Detector position Moving pipe project UCLouvain 3

Maximal scenario: assuming cold volumes can be rearranged to get maximal access `Medium’ solution? Moving pipe project UCLouvain 5

First design of HPS have been started assuming ‘minimal’ scenario for CC and basic detector configuration: • Three detector stations • One station with extended length (~20 cm) • Tracking detector cross-section 20 x 30 mm (and 20 mm length) • Displacements by up to 30 mm Moving pipe project UCLouvain 7

Plans Given dimensions and shape of volume for HPS in CC, design will be further continued… Plan to make first prototypes of pockets asap: urgently need (first) definition of detector volumes and other dimensions as side wall/window thickness and displacement Then, various lab tests will follow: Vacuum/leak tests Temperature cycles … Moving pipe project UCLouvain 14
