HABIT 1 Be Proactive

Habit 1 BE PROACTIVE I am the force. Take responsibility for your life. Being proactive is more than taking initiative. It is Habit 1 BE PROACTIVE accepting responsibility for our own behavior (past, present, and future) and making choices based on principles and values rather than on moods or circumstances. Proactive people are agents of change and choose not to be victims, to be reactive, or to blame others. They take an Inside-Outside Approach to creating changes. The defective teen: Reactive- Blaming problems on others, not taking responsibility for life or actions, act without thinking, impulsive, no self control

REACTIVE VS. PROACTIVE Proactive: The adjective proactive can describe a person who gets things done. If you are proactive, you make things happen, instead of waiting for them to happen to you. Reactive: To be reactive is to be ready to react or respond to something else — as opposed to be ready to act on one's own. A person who's reactive does things only in response to others.

PROACTIVE PEOPLE VS REACTIVE PEOPLE Proactive People : Are not easily offended Take responsibility for their actions Think before they act Bounce back when something bad happens (resiliency) Always find a way to make it happen Focus on things they can do something about, and don’t worry about things they can’t Reactive People: Are easily offended Blame others Get angry and say things they later regret Whine and Complain Wait for things to happen to them Change only when they have to
