Ofsted’s Assessment of Children’s Services 1. Annual rating of Children’s Services contributes to the “Area Assessment” & ‘Managing Performance' theme of the organisational assessment Rating will be determined using: º Detailed analysis of the LA Performance Profile, incl. NIS, LAA; º Views of service users/stakeholders, via questionnaires/scrutiny of assessment files; º Findings of regulatory inspections e. g. CLA, safeguarding, fostering, schools, care and early years settings, YOT and relevant Partners; º Ofsted’s view about common themes from other sources of evidence gathered during the year; º Progress on recommendations made in previous inspections; º Local Authority Self Evaluation incl. review of CYPP.

Framework for inspecting safeguarding and services for looked after children • Annual, unannounced inspection of LA contact, assessment and referral centres focusing on child protection arrangements • • • Scrutinises case files; gather stakeholder views; Reported in 10 working days – outcome will determine the timing of the fuller inspection of CLA and safeguarding Full inspection of local area safeguarding and services for looked after children evaluating overall effectiveness of services, every 3 years, unless services are judged as inadequate which would trigger a further inspection within 12 months. (2 weeks notice)
