H Habits Key Point Practice healthy mind habits
H - Habits Key Point: Practice healthy mind habits to reduce stress and increase inner strength. Essential Message: Take these mindfulness tools and use them in your life.
• By practicing Mindfulness, we have been training our attention to see what’s happening right now in our bodies, in our thoughts, and in our feelings. We’ve learned that we have some mindless habits, both in what we do and how we think about things. • The news is that we can shed the light of mindfulness on our lives, use the breath as an anchor, and approach every moment with more ease and less judgment.
Practicing new mental habits • • You might have noticed that you have tendencies in your mind and heart, perhaps toward chronic worry, anger, jealousy and so on. You can view these tendencies as unhelpful mind habits. These habits or patterns can be changed We can choose to be mindful – to be more aware and empowered
• Over the course of this curriculum, we have seen that we’re not always really here for our lives. We’re moving around, doing work, having fun, and getting things accomplished, but our minds and hearts may be someplace else. • We have learned that the strongest place to operate from is “right here”. We are steadier and more empowered when we are fully aware of the present moment. • We are less likely to get pushed around by our unconscious thoughts and feelings. • We can make better choices and take better care of ourselves.
• • • Every time we stop, check in, and really pay attention, we can find our inner balance. But because we get distracted easily, it helps to find ways to be mindful. Look at the word “remind”. What does the prefix “re” mean in a word? Examples; rewrite, reheat, replay, reintroduce, return All of these words share an idea of going back and doing something again. When we return our attention again and again to the present moment, we “come back” to our minds. This is what we need to practice, because we’re often so distracted. We can help ourselves by thinking of ways to “re-mind” ourselves to be mindful.
ACTIVITY: Designed to “Re-Mind” • Design a reminder to be mindful. • Re-minders can include cues, prompts, strategies, rituals, props, signs, or other ideas. • The working question is “What can I do to remind myself to be more mindful? ”
