h Spain: PILOT PROJET ON PREPARATION FOR RE-USE q BSH Spain signed an agreement with AERESS (Spanish Association of Social Companies) to carry out a project of preparation for re-use. q Koopera has several centers and the one selected for this project was in Ortuella, Vizcaya (Basque Country), in the north of Spain. q Very close to this center of Ortuella there is a logistic platform that works for BSH. q In this logistic center BSH stores the WEEE that we collect of the users when we deliver the new appliances. q Ecolec manages the WEEE to be sent for treatment. BSH keeps the 10 -digits code anyway. B S H H O M E A P P L I A N C E S G R O U P BSH Reverse Logistics and collaboration with the re-use sector I CTE-LA I 27 January 2016 I Slide: 11
h Spain: PILOT PROJET ON PREPARATION FOR RE-USE q From 01/03/2016 the logistic operator asked the user if the WEEE works or not (i. e, if it can be sent to preparation for re-use or not) and this information is written on a paper attached to every WEEE. § This is a requirement of the Spanish transposition of the WEEE Directive and it is a good help for the classification process of the WEEE. q On 24/02/2016 BSH provided the logistic operator with a “guideline” with criterias to select the WEEE that could be sent for preparation for re-use. h Spain: PILOT PROJET ON PREPARATION FOR RE-USE Reasons that made impossible the preparation for re-use q 66 appliances were discarded at the first sorting process (at the logistic platform) due to missing parts, rust, etc. q 157 appliances were rejected during the preparation for re-use process due to the following reasons: § 57 because there were no spare part § 64 because the repair cost were too high § 36 because the repair was difficult and the repair success was quite low B S H H O M E A P P L I A N C E S G R O U P BSH Reverse Logistics and collaboration with the re-use sector I CTE-LA I 27 January 2016 I Slide: 18
h Spain: PILOT PROJET ON PREPARATION FOR RE-USE Traceability q For the appliances that enter the preparation for re-use process, there is a paper with the appliance were the worker writes down all the information about the repairs carried out and every single incidence. q After the appliance has passed the safety and functional tests and after the cleaning process, all the information is saved in the computer of Koopera. q The computer program then codifies the appliance with a 10 digit code and prints out three labels, one label is stuck to the appliance, the second one is stuck to the paper accompanying the appliance (this paper is stored in Koopera) and the third one is stuck to the warranty for the customer. q The labels contain the logo of Koopera, their telephone number, type of appliance (i. e. fridge), the brand, the model, characteristics and the date when the preparation for re-use process finished. h Spain: PILOT PROJET ON PREPARATION FOR RE-USE Training and access to the technical information q BSH Spain has given access to the tool of the Customer Service called “Quickfinder” with information of q spare parts, q explosion views of the appliance, q repair manuals, q user manuals, etc q Some workers of Koopera attended a training in the Customer Service Central of Zaragoza on 16/03/16 B S H H O M E A P P L I A N C E S G R O U P BSH Reverse Logistics and collaboration with the re-use sector I CTE-LA I 27 January 2016 I Slide: 21
h Spain: PILOT PROJET ON PREPARATION FOR RE-USE Conclusion q For Koopera, the results of this pilot project are very good. q They were used to prepare for re-use about 5% - 6% of the collected WEEE and with the WEEE provided by BSH, this rate has been 26 %. q Although this is not decided yet, the aim of BSH is to keep on working with AERESS and replicate this project in some other cities in Spain. q Contact: B S H H O M E A P P L I A N C E S G R O U P BSH Reverse Logistics and collaboration with the re-use sector I CTE-LA I 27 January 2016 I Slide: 22
