Ägypten ist im Umbruch: Die Herausforderung lautet, einen demokratischen Wandel umzusetzen und zugleich mehr soziale Gerechtigkeit zu schaffen. Seite /22
Besonders auf dem Land sind viele Menschen aber noch autoritätshörig. Oftmals fühlen sie sich nicht bevollmächtigt, politisch zu handeln. Seite /22
Die koptische Organisation BLESS unterstützt Menschen dabei, ihre Lebensumstände eigenständig zu verbessern und ihre Interessen einzufordern. Seite /22
Auch in El Mashawda, einem Dorf in Oberägypten, ist BLESS tätig. Hier führt die Organisation unter anderem einen Alphabetisierungskurs durch. Seite /22
„So schreibt man den Buchstaben am Anfang eines Wortes, so in der Mitte und so am Ende“, erklärt die Lehrerin. Amany Abd El Shaheed (25) hört aufmerksam zu. Seite /22
Amany ist verheiratet und Mutter zweier Söhne: „Schon immer wollte ich lesen und schreiben können. “ Doch zur Schule durfte sie nicht – wie die meisten Mädchen. Seite /22
Mindestens 50 Prozent der Frauen in den ländlichen Regionen Ägyptens sind Analphabeten. Mädchen brauchen keine Bildung, lautete dort lange Zeit das Credo. Seite /22
BLESS richtet deshalb Montessori-Kindergärten ein, die schon den Kleinsten beibringen, das Lernen zu lernen. Einer davon steht in dem Örtchen Havez. Seite /22
Die meisten Menschen hier sind arm, viele arbeiten als Tagelöhner. Und die Kinder werden häufig sich selbst überlassen. Seite /22
Seitdem es den Kindergarten gibt, werden die Kleinen gefördert. So wie die fünfjährige Marina, die jeden Tag gerne hierher kommt. Seite /22
Marina wird es in der Schule leichter haben als ihre älteren Brüder. „Sie kann schon etwas schreiben und zählen – sogar ein bisschen auf Englisch“, freut sich ihre Mutter. Seite /22
„Wir verfolgen einen ganzheitlichen Ansatz“, erklärt Bischof Youannes, 54, Direktor von BLESS. „Nur so können wir etwas zum Guten verändern. “ Seite /22
BLESS bildet lokale Entwicklungshelferinnen und -helfer aus, die dann in ihren Dörfern Arbeitsgruppen zu verschiedenen Themen gründen. Oft sind es Frauen. Seite /22
Eine dieser Mitarbeiterinnen ist Damiana Soliman. Auch sie stammt aus El Mashawda, durfte aber zur Schule gehen und das Abitur machen. Seite /22
In einem sechswöchigen Kurs wurde Damiana Soliman von BLESS auf ihre Tätigkeit vorbereitet. „Man muss vor allem lernen, geduldig zu sein“, sagt sie. Seite /22
Immer wieder klopfte Damiana Soliman mit einer Kollegin auch an Amanys Haustür. Schließlich überzeugten sie, an dem Alphabetisierungskurs teilzunehmen. Seite /22
Dort gehört Amany Abd El Shaheed längst zu den besten Teilnehmerinnen. Sie lernt schnell und kann anderen helfen. Bald wird sie ihren Abschluss machen. Seite /22
Das Abschluss-Zertifikat ist gleichwertig mit dem Grundschulabschluss. Tausende Absolventinnen führte dieser Weg von BLESS bereits in eine bessere Zukunft. Seite /22
