WELCOME BT Apprenticeship Programme
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships • BT has run apprenticeship programmes for over 50 years.
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships • Attract new talent into the organisation and also to assist with future proofing skills for the future, where experienced employees are able to pass on their unique skills and knowledge to each apprentice. • Promote STEM subjects for females.
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships • Our on line recruitment portal has video case studies of some of our apprentices from a diverse range of backgrounds who share their positive experience.
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships • Attend schools/colleges/jobs fairs across Wales to highlight the benefits of apprenticeships to a diverse range of people.
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships • At our recruitment hubs we also ensure that we have female apprentices/ex apprentices present. • Promote volunteering in the local community
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships Originally within BT the only apprentice offering was for engineering roles and near enough 100% were male. This has moved forward into a variety of roles and in addition the number of apprenticeships we have offered. Within this time we now assess our own apprentices and have gained accreditation to run our own NVQ provision centre. We have also focused on attracting more women into STEM roles and there is a marked increase in the number of female apprentices within the business.
BT’s Approach To Apprenticeships We measure our apprentices progression through clear milestones throughout their programme and review our success rates on completion and seek feedback from our apprentices during and at the end of their programme. We have employee surveys and measure our apprentices results against wider business areas and year on year has seen higher positive results with our apprentices across the range of topics. We value apprentices because young people bring new skills and innovation to the business. They are the life blood of the organisation as they help shape the future workforce within Wales and of the company. At BT Cymru Wales, we think it is important to give young people an opportunity to get into work, to gain valuable skills and to have those skills recognised by a third party. Apprenticeships are good for BT’s business and play a key role in ensuring that we maintain and develop a highly skilled workforce within Wales. For young people, they are a great way to transform their enthusiasm into valuable skills that will serve them well wherever their careers take them.
