Goals of the revision • Unification of the existing regulations for all main European waterways • To set up more specific minimum requirements • User friendly document SC. 3/WP. 3 38 th Session, Geneva, 16 -18 February 2011 4

Main changes 1 • Chapter 1. – General − Obligation to post kilometer signs • Chapter 2. – Requirements to be met by signs and marks and the plan for their installation − Positioning taking into account current speed − Additional information in the installation plan • Chapter 3. – Visibility of signs and lights − − Formula for calculating signs dimension Some specifics about dimensions of the figures in the signs Minimum height of the lower rim of the signs Intensity for color lights SC. 3/WP. 3 38 th Session, Geneva, 16 -18 February 2011 5

Main changes 2 • Chapter 4. – Installation of signs and marking in characteristic sections of the river − Additional specifics about bank marks orientation − Additional specifics about cross-channel fairway signs (examples of the some characteristic positioning) − Additional specifics about shallow water marking − Additional characteristic examples of marking of the sections nearby the bridges • Chapter 5. – Image display techniques − Examples are moved to the Annex SC. 3/WP. 3 38 th Session, Geneva, 16 -18 February 2011 6

Main changes 3 • Chapter 6. – Installation of radar reflectors on marking signs and signals − No significant changes • Appendix − More specific sketches and dimensions divided by the sign type − Sketches can be presented not only for types but for each sign specifically (Danube Commission) SC. 3/WP. 3 38 th Session, Geneva, 16 -18 February 2011 7
