Current Virginia Practice In 2011, BOE approves two Capstone Courses • Mathematics Capstone Course • English Capstone Courses focus more on content than overall demonstration of competencies learned throughout high school that prepare to be college and career ready. 3

State Practices • Georgia and North Carolina – graduation requirement • California – local option • Washington – past graduation requirement eliminated in 2015 4
