Guided Practice • Create small groups of 4 or 6 students. • Divide the groups into two teams of two or three students. • Select one person from each team to be spokesperson. • The following slides will consist of different scenarios. Read the scenario. As a team, collaborate on what to say and how to respond to the opposing team’s dialogue. • Each team starts off with 10 points. Using a score card, score the opposing teams responses.

Situation One: Team 1 Your family will be going on vacation for a week. Set up a pre-arranged absence and get your homework with your math teacher. Team 2 One of your math students is going away on vacation with their family for a week. Give them their homework for the week they will be gone.

Situation Two: Team 1 You have an extra ticket to watch the Blazers play next week. It is your best friend’s birthday and you want to take him with you, but you want it to be a surprise. Ask his parents if he can go. Team 2 Your son’s best friend wants to take your son to a Blazer game. He has come to the house to ask for your permission.

Situation Three: Team 1 Your Grandmother is over for dinner. Your Mother has asked that you keep her company while she finishes dinner. Team 2 Your Grandson is keeping you company while his mother is in the kitchen finishing up dinner.
