** Common Questions from Northern Guilford High School Students ** 1) How will my counselor coordinate my schedule with GTCC? Sign up for 6 NGHS courses in Power. School during the online registration window. When you meet with your counselor, she will remove the appropriate courses. Your GTCC classes will be taken either in the morning or afternoon so that your NGHS classes can be scheduled around them. Don’t worry! We know you can’t be in 2 places at the same time. If there is a scheduling issue, your counselor will call you over the summer to discuss options. Students typically take 3 - 4 NGHS classes and 1 - 2 GTCC classes a semester. Students must have at least 5 courses during each semester. 2) Are GTCC courses a part of my NGHS transcript? Yes! And your GTCC transcript will have to be sent to the college where you enroll.

** Continued Common Questions ** 3) If I drop a course at GTCC, can I still play sports at NGHS? This is a slippery slope. You must be enrolled in and pass at least 5 course credits each semester. Note that for eligibility purposes, one GTCC course will count as 2 courses since it is a semester in length. If you play a sport, talk with your school counselor BEFORE you drop a GTCC course so you do not risk losing your athletic eligibility. 4) If I want to withdraw from a course, can I just stop going to class? Absolutely not! You must contact Linda Whitlow and complete the required withdrawal paperwork. If you simply stop going, you will earn a failing grade that will appear on both your NGHS and GTCC Transcripts. You must contact Linda Whitlow if you want to withdraw from a class. 5) Is there transportation? No, the student must provide their own transportation.

** Continued Common Questions ** 6) Can I sign up for the spring semester instead of the fall? Yes, students can submit their Career and College Promise application for fall, spring, and summer semesters. 7) Can I take all of my classes at GTCC? No, they do not offer a high school equivalent for Civics or Earth/Environmental Science. We also do not allow students to take English 3 and English 4 at GTCC, since they will not have the prerequisites completed for those courses.
