GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Gmb. H How to proceed with commissioning planning? M. Bai Machine Meeting, July 17, 2018 GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Gmb. H
Goal oriented planning § Correlated scheduling of core activities required for reaching the goal (z. B. commissioning) to avoid potential confusions and overlaps that could result in conflicts, frustrations, etc. z. B. , § for planning the commissioning, ensure enough time for activities that are required for establishing stable beam before planning further beam optimization/study activities § for daily or a specific test/study, make sure the availability of required systems/components and related expertise in case of hiccups § Develop a time table of the activities (shift plan) based the availabilities of required experts, sequence of activities to avoid potential confusions and conflicts § This should in turn be communicated among all affected colleagues with enough time in advance for discussions and adjustments if needed GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Gmb. H
Goal oriented planning § Benefit of having such a plan § allow colleagues to plan their engagement accordingly § If done properly, helps to minimize the technical hiccups and frustrations due to the conflicts that can in turn significantly improve the productivity within the limited beam time § Can also help to reach better coordination with the experimental colleagues, many of whom may come from outside on a limited duration for their scheduled beam time GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Gmb. Inputs from Jens: Must have • reliable injection • reliable main magnet ramping • extraction systems • septum • KO • required BI • tools for beam tuning • orbit measurements and correction • . . . GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Gmb. H
Commissioning plan with beam, zbw § 1 st week: focus is on demonstrating the operational readiness of all key technical parts § task driven planning, or shift based planning? § 2 nd week for SIS 18 and HEBT optimization § § dedicated commissioning of all required slow extraction items HEBT optimization, etc beam might be available for experiments if no major deviations task driven planning, or shift based planning? § 3 rd week for optimizing the slow extraction quality § task driven planning, or shift based planning? GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Gmb. H
How to proceed with planning commissioning? § Critical system operational readiness § list of the systems/components? § Among them, what can be debugged without beam? What will require a dedicated time with beam? If so, how long? § resource loaded plan activities accordingly § Beam tuning and optimization § after all major technical hiccups are addressed § task driven planning, or shift based planning? § Midnight: § Can tasks be arranged in a way to also engage the HKR crews for continuing the efforts during the day? § additional benefit: training by learning! § Once reasonable beam can be established, give beam to experimenters for their detector setups? § When should/can it be ready for being distributed to all colleagues?
