One day… • You are chatting about mobile phones and all the different things you can do when you are older. • Then you start to talk about growing up and body changes and your friend asks you… What is puberty anyway?
Puberty is… What could you say?
• As a time of change? • As something that happens to everyone? • A time when we grow and develop? • A time when we have more responsibility? • A time that is really exciting and nothing to worry about? Would you say?
They then they ask… Why does puberty happen?
It All Starts With Hormones • Puberty is caused by the release of special chemicals from the brain. • The chemicals are special messengers which tell our body it’s time to grow up.
The chemicals are called hormones and set to work different parts of the body that help us to grow up. The brain sends special chemical messages out around the body. It all starts in the brain… Why does puberty happen?
