Groups 1 and 2 Arithmetic Questions
Clue: Only one number will change here. Which one do you think it is?
Clue: You will need to set this question out either using the grid method or the column method.
Clue: Multiplication. Calculate using the column or grid method.
Clue: Make sure your decimal points are lined up and add this using the column method.
Clue: Place value is the key here. Make sure your units, tens, hundreds and thousands are lined up!
Clue: Try using the inverse for this question. ? X 7 = 42
Clue: Be careful – you will need to exchange for this question.
Clue: Use the column method, line up your decimals and add a zero in the blank ‘hundredths’ space if it helps!
Clue: One step at a time. Calculate 3 x 6 and then multiply the answer by 2.
Clue: The denominators are the same so this addition should be easy!
Clue: Imagine that 480 was 48 and then multiply the answer by 10. This may make things less scary!
Clue: Place value! When we multiply numbers by 10 they move one place to the left! Your decimal stays where it is!

Clue: Make sure you line your units, tens, hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands up! Remember, you cannot exchange from a zero – try the next column along!
Clue: Don’t let the hundreds scare you! This is really 4 x 3, only 10, 000 times bigger!
Clue: You can either use long division or the chunking method for this question.
Clue: You can use the column method or the grid method for this question. Try to imagine 1. 05 as £ 1. 05 – it isn’t £ 1. 50 – be careful!
Clue: Both of the denominators are the same here, so this one should be pretty straight forward!
Clue: Place value! Use the column method and make sure that your units, tens, hundreds and thousands are lined up. You will have to carry a 10 here – be careful!
Clue: Use the ‘bus stop method’ to help you here. Do you know your 5 times table?
Clue: Try writing 28 as 28. 00 before you use the column method – this will help you!
Clue: The column method is already set out for you here – don’t forget to write a ‘ 0’ when you are multiplying the ‘ 6’ – it means 60!
Clue: The ‘ 9’ in 49. 6 and 9. 07 have the same value!
Clue: There should be NO REMAINDERS here!
Clue: Multiply the numerators followed by the denominators and then simplify!
Clue: Place value! Line your numbers up using the squares provided! You will have to exchange if the top number is smaller than the bottom number!
Clue: This multiplication sum has been set out for you. It’s easier than it looks!
Clue: Remember BODMAS! Calculate 8 x 2 first, then take the answer away from 30.
