Group Speaking Assessment Level 2 English - Integrated Skills
Main goals: • Work in groups of 3 or 4. • Explain how you will solve a problem. • You will be interviewed by another teacher (not your classroom teacher) • Everyone should speak for about 3 minutes.
Three Main Topics (Some topics may not be available this quarter. Your teacher decides on your topic. ) 1. Tourism & Travel 2. Planning an Event 3. Current Issues Dubai Culture Day London Health Day Improve the Hostels Paris Design a new University
Time • Day 1 – Set up groups & receive topics (15 mins) • Day 2 – Begin research & discussion (50 mins) • Day 3 – Finish research & discussion - practice (50 mins) • Day 4 – Assessment interview (each group 15 mins) • Day 5 – Complete your final reflection (homework)
The Interview – Part 1 • Another teacher will come to your class. • The teacher will ask you questions about your problem. • Each student is responsible for a different part of the problem. • Example: For tourism hotels / shopping / attractions/ food
The Interview – Part 2 • You will be recorded • The teachers will mark your speaking skills • You CANNOT use any notes during your interview. (It is a speaking test not a reading test!)
Marks - Interview You will be marked on three things: • How much information you can tell the interviewer • Speaking - vocabulary & grammar • Speaking – fluency & pronunciation
Marks – Notes & Reflection You will be marked on: • How much information you collect in your notes • Explaining how you felt about the assessment & how you could improve next time
Mark Breakdown Speaking Writing Amount of information 20% Speaking skills 50% Notes 10% Final Reflection 20%
Example Interview Questions • • What did you decide for/about …? Why? Tell me more about… Why did you decide to…? How many options did you find for … ? Was it difficult to choose between… ? Why / Why not? Why will (people) enjoy (activity/place…)? What was interesting about…. Why? What did you decide NOT to do/choose for…? Why? Was it difficult to decide on the final option(s)? Why / Why not?
