Gross Morphology of Permanent Tooth DR. SUMAIYA SHARMIN ORAL AND DENTAL SURGEON, DR M R KHAN SHISHU HOSPITAL AND INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH Lecture 03 Gross Morphology of Permanent Tooth 1

Previously we have learned In thisabout lecture we will start learning to Basic Anatomicalidentify tooth. Structures. 2

Maxillary Left Central Incisor Maxillary Left Lateral Incisor Let’s begin with ‘Incisors’ 3 Mandibular Left Central Incisor Mandibular Left Lateral Incisor

Maxillary Left Central Incisor Maxillary Left Lateral Incisor Mandibular Left Central Incisor At first ‘Maxillary Central Incisors’ 4 Mandibular Left Lateral Incisor

Maxillary Central Incisor Root Neck Crown 5

Maxillary Central Incisor Labial Surface: The facial surface convex cervically and flattened incisally. At the incisal edge there are mammelons which disappear later. There is a labial groove. Contact area: a. mesial side - near incisal edge b. distal side - near middle of the margin Mesial margin straight Distal margin rounded Disto-incisal angle is more are less rounded 6

Maxillary Central Incisor Lingual surface Crown profile almost of labial surface. 1. Lingual fossa present & is a broad depression on central portion. 2. Cingulum present on cervical side. 3. 2 marginal ridge 4. Mesial marginal ridge (MMR) 5. Distal marginal ridge (DMR) 6. Cervical line is more convex than labial surface. 7

Maxillary Central Incisor Mesial surface: 1. Triangular in outline 2. Lingual margin is 'S' shape. 3. Labial margin is convex and curves smoothly from cervical margin to mesial edge. 4. Distal surface & 8

Maxillary Central Incisor Distal surface: 1. Very similar to mesial surface. 2. But cervical line is less convex. 9

Maxillary Central Incisor Incisal aspect/surface: 1. Formed by meeting of labial & lingual surface and extends from mesial to distal angles of tooth, 2. Mammelons are present: 3. Incisal surface inclined lingually. 10

Maxillary Central Incisor Cervical margin: Outlined by cemento enamel pendant. Root: Single, cone shaped and slightly longer than crown. (23. 5 mm) 11
