GROCERY RESCUE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Retail Grocery Rescue Program enables retail grocers and restaurants to donate their food products directly to SMFB Agency Partners for community distribution to provide families and individuals with food. THREE WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM q Direct Delivery – SMFB driver picks up donations and delivers directly to Agency on a weekly basis. q Grocery Rescue Pickups – The Agency is responsible to pick up donations on a daily basis from assigned retail stores/donors. q One Time Pickups – SMFB will call an Agency when they have a donor needing a one time donation pickup. PROGRAM DETAILS q Retail Grocery Rescue partners can include grocery stores, convenience stores, drug stores, restaurants and other retail outlets. q Items donated range from a variety of items you would find in a grocery store: bakery, deli, produce, dairy and meat. WHO QUALIFIES? q Agency partners must be a federally designated nonprofit organization. q Agencies who distribute food in the community to meet the needs of their clients including working poor families, children and seniors. PARTNER AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES q Active staff/volunteers to receive, examine, store, and distribute food to qualified clients according to program requirements. q Refrigerator and freezer for storage of perishable donations and space for storage of dry donations. q Scale to weigh donations. q Daily reporting of donated pounds into Meal Connect. q Maintain a minimum of one Food Handlers Card (Food Managers Card for meal sites) q Must commit to the grocery rescue pickup schedule and communicating to the food bank and store when a schedule conflict arises. q Able to commit to the grocery rescue program for one year.
