Summary Gregor Mendel was born on July 22, 1822, in Austria. When he grew older, he went to high school in the city of Troppau in the Czech Republic. After finishing high school Gregor Mendel went to the Philosophical Institute of the University of Olmütz and joined a two-year program to study math and physics. After graduating the program in 1843 he continued on a separate path and began to study to become a monk. In order to do so, he joined the Augustinian order at the St. Thomas Monastery in Brno, Czech Repubic. Then, to continue his studies in different fields, Gregor Mendel was sent, by the monastery, to the University of Vienna. While there, he learned and studied mathematics and physics with Christian Doppler. Also, Gregor Mendel studied botany and was taught by Franz Unger. After finishing with physics, math, and botany at the University of Vienna, he was offered a job at a high school in Brno, which is where he began to study and develop new thoughts that would allow him to become known as, “The Father of modern Genetics. ” The experiment which has made him well known today was when he began to experiment with peas to determine two laws-the Law of Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment which showed how and which traits were passed on to the next generation. Which then led to the discovery of Heredity. Lastly, became the leader of the monks which may have prevented him from reaching more accomplishments from his experiments.

Dear Mom and Dad, I am writing this letter to thank you all for motivating me to be the genius and brilliant scientist I am today. I barely have spare time between all of my jobs and duties at the monastery which will prevent me from seeing you guys for a while. If it were not for you two I would might not have challenged my self in school, which would have made my career, thoughts, and way of life change completely. I think that I have figured out the basic principals of a subject called heredity. I hope you can be there when my work is released to the public and everybody is talking about me. Thanks Again, Your son, Gregor Mendel
