Our project We had to make a visual aid to help show consumers and organizations different products that are "green vs green" and show them the prices and how they help the economy and if they are worth it or not.

When is it 'green vs. green'? When it's Money vs. the Enviorment • It's when you have to decide if paying more money for the green products is worth it.

How do we choose our actions around energy use? • We choose our actions

How do we choose our actions around energy use? • We choose our actions around energy used in selffish ways. . . for comfort. • This has turned into a negative effect on the planet. such as, money loss, wasted energy, global warming, and even pollution. • People don't think about the effects of the actions that we do.

When are the environment and economy in harmony? • When a product saves money

When are the environment and economy in harmony? • When a product saves money on electricity, gas and it's worth it. • Flourescent lightbulbs is one example of this. • Flourescent lightbulbs are both inexpenisve, and save energy • Re-useable plastic bags that you can buy in stores is now a great way to save plastic & better the enviornment

Pollution Greenhouses Gases • they are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbon, chemicals, and chlorofluorocarbons • trap heat at the Earth surface while cooling the stratosphere • increased concentration of greenhouse gases in Earth's atmophere. • greenhouse effect between 36% and 66% of water vapor

Simple ways to go green w/out spending $ but saving $ 1. When brushing your teeth turn off sink. . . don't leave the water on the whole tim 2. When your going to take a shower don't turn on the shower untill your in the shower. 3. Don't use your sprinklers as much. For example, If it's raining turn them off. 4. If your not in a room in your house make sure those lights are off. 5. Recylce all of your plastics & aluminum cans & bottles. 6. wash clothes after 6 p. m. 7. Have yor own grocery bag dont use paper or plastic bags at the store 8. Avoid anti-bacterial hand soaps and hand sanitizers that contain triethanolamine. 9. Recycle newspapers, magazines and junk mail. 10. Walk whenever possible. Plan out your weekly menu and shopping needs, an go to the store once to cut back on multiple trips.

Policy analysis • • • World. Mark by Wyndham Guest books have a note recomending to use less energy and water. They use "Going Green. Reduce, Reuse And Recycle. Save now, spend later" as there slogan. Installed low-flow showerheads & compact fluorescent bulbs It's resulted in reduced water and energy consumption at resorts Owners may also choose to read Destinations magazine online and discontinue receiving printed copies by mail. World. Mark guest often complain about the lights not being bright enough and they just tell you that the longer you leave them on the brighter they will get.

Acid Rain • Pollution goes up and the nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide and carbon dioxide go in the air and mix with the water in the atmosphere and travels a far distance and drops down acid rain

Ozone • Car exhaust contains CO, CO 2, Nitrogen Oxides, amoung other things, but not the , CFCs that damage the Ozone Layer. • Wind Turbines are used for energy. The way they get energy is by the steam in the air. Which does no harm to the ozone. There mostly use in the West but, on the East, they use coal for energy which causes harm to the ozone layer.

How flourescent lightbulbs save the earth; If each household changed one standard bulb for one compact fluorescent bulb, California could: • Reduces energy use up to 616 million kilowatt hours of electricity in one year. That's enough energy to light all the households in Sacramento for 2 yrs. • Reduce garbage by keeping up to a billion bulbs out of the trash. • Each fluorescent bulb can last up to 10 times longer than an ordinary bulb. • Keep 974 million pounds of carbon dioxide or CO 2 out of the environment. CO 2 is the most common gas that contributes to global warming. That's 450 pounds of CO 2 saved from the atmosphere with each fluorescent bulb. • Keep your home cooler in the summer. A fluorescent bulb generates 70 percent less heat than a regular bulb. http: //www. energyquest. ca. gov/saving_energy/fluorescent_facts. html

Human comfort • People often complain about how fluorescent lights are to dim & they don't provide enough light. • People also complain that Flourescent lightbulbs cost too much money, when they aren't that expensive. • People also might say that Flourescent & Incandescent lightbulbs are the same and are no different from each other.

Flourescent lightbulbs Pros: 1. Save Energy [75% less] 2. Save Money Over Time 3. Help keep your home cooler during the Summer time. 4. Lasts 5 to 8 times longer 5. Has a reduced fire risk 6. Reduces Global Warming 7. Cons: 1. You May Not Have the Money at that particular time to buy the energy saving product. 2. Doesn't produce light instantly. It takes some time. 3. Contains Mercury Therefore, 4. You have to dispose it in a certain way. 5. Studys have proved that people who are often around fluorescent lights often suffer from depression.

pros: E 85 Cars 1. Using Ethanol fuel results in less pollution & reduces smog forming emissions. 2. The crops that make the ethanol absorb CO 2 from the atmosphere during their growth, then the CO 2 is put back into the atmosphere when the ethanol is burned in an automobile engine. 3. Alot believe that E 85 is 1 way to end America's dependence on fossil fuel. 4. Produces fewer harmful exhaust emissions than conventional gasoline. Cons: 1. The crops that make the ethanol absorb CO 2 from the atmosphere during their growth, then the CO 2 is put back into the atmosphere when the ethanol is burned in an automobile engine. 2. Ethonal can be more expensive than gasoline. 3. Which means your car won’t go as far on a gallon of fuel & your fuel economy will decrease by 20 -30%. 4. 2, 000 E 85 stations in the US & most of them are in 2 states: Minnesota and Illinois. 5. New York, California and Florida have just 20 E 85 stations combined.

Smog • Using cars that use Ethanyol(E 85) helps prevent smog because it produces less pollution than octane. • Getting a smog check for your car also helps stop pollution. • Ethanyol fewer harmful exhaust emissions than octane.

Human comfort • People's human comfort for cars is that E 85 cars are usually more expensive then regular cars, therefore they don't but E 85 cars do.

Global Warming • If you use E 85 (Ethaynol) it reduce carbon emissons(CO 2) • Which reduces global warming • If you use Flourescent Lightbulbs it can also reduce Global Warming because regular lightbulbs not only create light, but are like "little heaters". In which they waste a lot of energy. • They also don't burn as hot as incandescent bulbs.

Steam Turbines • "The bundle heats the water and turns it to steam. The steam then drives a steam turbine. The steam turbine then spins a generator to produce the electricity. In some reactors, the steam from the reactor goes through a secondary heat exchanger to convert another loop of water to steam, which drives the turbine. The advantage to this is that the radioactive water never touches the turbine. The final process is the cooling towers where the steam that was used to turn the turbines are then cooled back to water to be pumped back in the tank to be reheated back it to steam to turn the turbine" (www. eng. fsu. edu. com). • Relates to the gay lussac law because It increases tempertaure + pressure to make them move by steam

• • Steam turbine Pros: Currently nuclear energy is the cheapest out of all the other forms of power generation in the sense that its overall production costs are 1. 76 cents/per kilowatt-hour. The next cheapest form of power is coal which is 2. 21, while the next form of semiclean energy, natural gas registers at 7. 61(www. eng. fsu. edu. com) All of the water used in the Steam turbine can be recycled. The Steam Turbine typically lowers the electricity bill by 50 to 90 percent Steam Turbine used in power generation nuclear from nuclear power and propulsion ships with nuclear power plants Cons: • Since the fuel is both radioactive and fissionable is still concern about how the waste should be handled. Most nuclear waste remains radioactive for thousands of years.
