Green Environmental Management System PEST MANAGEMENT PROGRAM PURPOSE. To provide information relative to the procedures, responsibilities, and function of the Pest Management Program at this facility. POLICY. To provide effective preventive pest control measures, avert infestations, and eliminate pests to property and the human environment. RESPONSIBILITIES Environmental Management Service (EMS) Chief or Designee is designated Pest Control Officer and is responsible for the total facility Pest Management Program including, but not limited to, the following: Assure that the contract service pest control operators and their supervisors are certified. Make certain that no local use of pesticides, chemicals, and compounds are used, stored, or purchased at this facility (only MA state licensed contract services will be utilized to perform these services). Per Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MA DAR), an EPA-registered pesticide must be applied by a Massachusetts State Licensed Pesticide Applicator. Ensure that the contractor provides a list of pesticide compounds in use, their Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and their antidotes, and that a copy of this list is maintained in the Office of Chief, Environmental Management Service, ext. 3098 under the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program Pest Activity Report Log (Report log is located in the EMS Office), or the Safety Program Manager, ext. 2712, or the GEMS Program Manager, ext. 2222. Periodically, review soil treatment compounds used at this facility for compliance with State and Federal regulations. Service Chiefs, Service Line Managers, or other Program Directors are responsible for the following: Ensuring that no Service requests for the purchase of pesticides, to include herbicides and insecticides, are approved for use at this facility. When discovered by a Purchasing Agent that a request has been made, s/he will return the request to the originator indicating that no request for purchase of any pesticide will be approved for use at this facility. The GEMS Program Manager must be consulted for the approval of any soil treatment chemicals. Best management practice is to hire a MA state licensed applicator apply soil treatment chemicals. Assuring the elimination of environmental conditions conducive to pest infestations and impressing upon their employees the importance of taking preventive measures and reporting any evidences of infestations.
