The Creation � � � Chaos-dark and formless void Gaia-great Mother Earth Uranus-the starry sky � Children of Uranus and Gaia- 3 brothers-Hundred Handed-too terrifying to look at, Uranus locks them up under the Earth 3 Cyclops-giants with huge single eye, also shut away 12 Titans- 6 sons, 6 daughters-Larger than mortals, had beauty and majesty; Gaia wanted them to avenge Uranus for his cruel treatment of her other children

Boys- Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius and Iapetus Girls-Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Rhea, Phoebe, and Themis Cronus Poseidon Hades Rhea Hestia Demeter The Olympians- lived on Mt. Olympus Hera Zeus

What happened? � � Uranus told Cronus he would be overthrown by his own children, so Cronus swallowed Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseiden Rhea hid 6 th child, Zeus. As an adult, Zeus gave Cronus an herb that caused him to throw up the 5 other children Zeus and his siblings, the Olympians, were at war with the Titans until Prometheus and Zeus freed Cronus’ monstrous siblings who defeated Cronus
Then… � � � Poseidon- became God of the Sea Hades- became God of the Underworld and was not allowed back on Mt. Olympus Zeus- became King of the Gods Zeus had many children Many were Gods and Goddesses with special abilities
