Four Steps to Writing Clear, Specific, Challenging Goals • 1. Begin with action verb preceded by “to. ” • To sell, to build, to increase, to learn, to improve, etc • 2. Identify key result area that is the performance target • reports, inventory, attendance, customer service. • 3. State performance indicator or measurement standard • percentages, monetary units, average time/task. • 4. Coalition Voting Power • [a; v 1, v 2, v 3, . . . Vn] • • • A = votes needed to win V = voting bloc To calculate power, put voting blocs in all possible voting orders, underline the bloc that occurs chronologically equal to the votes necessary to win, calculate the percentage of times each bloc is underlined • T.
