GRAPHING IN THE COORDINATE PLANE OBJECTIVE I CAN
GRAPHING IN THE COORDINATE PLANE OBJECTIVE: I CAN NAME AND GRAPH POINTS OF A COORDINATE PLANE
SKILL CHECK • Vocabulary review: Opposites are the same distance as ______ on a number line. • Graph each integer on a number line: • -2 • 3 • 0 • -6
GRAPHING IN THE COORDINATE PLANE What You’ll Learn • To name and graph points on a coordinate plane • New Vocabulary: • • Coordinate plane Quadrant Origin Ordered Pair Why Learn This? • You can use this to find and describe locations on a map.
BEGINNING OF NOTES (WRITE THIS) • Coordinate Plane- is a surface formed by the intersection of two number lines • Quadrants- the four regions the plane is divided into • Origin- the point where the two number lines intersect X axis • Ordered Pairs- a pair of numbers that describe the location of a point in a coordinate plane (X, Y) The x-coordinate tells how far to more right or left along the x-axis Y axis Quadrant II Quadrant I Origin Quadrant III The y-coordinate tells how far to more up or down along the y-axis Quadrant IV
EXAMPLE: NAMING COORDINATES (Each line is one integer on THIS graph. Not all graphs will e numbered the same way) Q A E D
GRAPHING ORDERED PAIRS • Graph the following ordered pairs: • • A ( 1 , -2 ) B ( -4 , -5 ) C ( -1, 2 ) D ( -4, -4 )
