Graphing from General Form Quadratics FOM 11 June 3, 2020
What you need for today
General Form y = ax 2 + bx + c What does General Form tell you? C = the y-intercept, but this is too little to graph from Useful Forms… 1. Vertex Form y = a(x – h)2 + k (gives vertex) 2. Factor Form y = a(x – b)(x – c) (gives xintercepts)
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 6 x + 8
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 6 x + 5
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 12 x + 35
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 - 2 x - 3
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 - 2 x - 8
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 6 x + 10 What if it is not easily factorable? Go to VERTEX FORM
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 6 x + 10
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 - 4 x + 5
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 8 x + 18
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 2 x - 4
Graph the parabola: y = x 2 + 4 x + 7
Your Take Aways for Today: • Change GENERAL FORM into either FACTOR FORM or VERTEX FORM in order to graph
To Do: • Complete the Graphing General Form worksheet (Check answers on my website)
In-class goals Goal #1: work through Quadratic and using desmos for word problems Unit Test is next week (online) Both Mrs. Van Kooy and I will be able to work one on one with you during Block 4 on your alpha day Math Learning for June 8 - 12
Rest of the Year 1 more quiz (unit test) 3 more lessons No final exam • June 8 – 12 • June 8 - general form factor form & vertex form • June 10 - Quadratic word problems (with Desmos) • June 15 – 19 • June 15: Using Desmos for word problems (revisited) • June 17: Unit Review and Unit Test Preparation • June 17/18: QUADRATIC UNIT TEST • June 19: Marks posted (final %) includes Term 3% and all online quizzes • June 22 – 24: “I” Days for anyone who has not completed quizzes (in school)
