Jonas' family has an evening ritual. Every evening they tell their feelings about the day. Typically, the mood is peaceful because the family is sharing and bonding, but when Jonas asks his parents if they love Pages: 6 -10 him, the mood becomes much more uncomfortable and tense. His parents don’t approve of Jonas expressing emotion.
