Federal Money Land Water Conservation Fund • Funded through National Park Service • 50/50 Match, reimbursement program • Acquisition and/or development of public outdoor recreation areas • LWCF assisted areas must be maintained and opened, in perpetuity, as public outdoor recreation areas Recreational Trails Program • Funded through Federal Highways Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act • 80/20 Match, reimbursement program • building and rehabilitating trails and trail facilities • two-step process: an RTP grant for preliminary engineering (PE) followed by a construction grant.

Registered nonprofit groups partnered with a government body also are eligible.

State Money Virginia Land Conservation Fund • Created in 1992, first funded in 2000 • 19 -member Board representing VA’s 11 Congressional Districts • Sec. of Natural Resources, Sec. of Agriculture & Forestry, and 17 citizen members – Director of DCR serves as Exec Secretary • Interagency taskforce develops scoring criteria and advises board on project priorities

Eligibility Who may apply: • State agencies, federal agencies, localities, public bodies, and nonprofit organizations that are “holders”. • Minimum application = $200, 000 total cost for land preservation and conservation projects; $25, 000 total cost for public interpretive programs, signage, and exhibits. • 50/50 Match reimbursement program.
