“Grammar to Explain” 직접화법의 전달동사 say는 간접화법에서는 말의 내용에 따라 tell, ask(부탁하다), order, command, advise, beg 등으로 바뀌며, 피전달문 은 to부정사구로 바뀐다. 부정명령문은 to부정사를 부정(否定)한다. Her father said to Susan, “Be back by nine o'clock. ” Her father told Susan to be back by nine o'clock. The officer said to his men, “Don't doze. ” The officer commanded [ordered] his men not to doze. She said to her husband, “Please get some flour on your way back home. ” She asked her husband to get some flour on his way back home. Our teacher said to us, “Try to study harder. ” Our teacher advised [told] us to study harder. 간접명령문의 경우에는 전달동사가 suggest나 propose로 바뀌고, 피전달문은 that절로 시작하는 가정법 현재(미래)를 사용한다.
