The task (for 2016 starters) To create an undergraduate continuing professional development programme: to augment the subject based skills that students develop through their programmes with broader employability, softer skills and techniques that would enhance their employment options. BCU Graduate+ • Extra-curricular awards framework (Bronze to Gold); • Participation= connections - key aim at level 4 • recognises the employability/life skills that our students develop within and outside of the university through their lifewide experiences; • build on existing excellent practice - enhance not replace what programmes and central services offer; • offer a calendar of ‘memorable’ university events; • Shift to a personal development focus.
The student journey (level 4) • Personal development testing – (potential. ly) • Discussion with Personal Tutor • Identification of strengths and weaknesses • Attendance at events/workshops to address needs/interests…. . and/or • Engagement in memorable events (Charity event, Low Carbon challenge, Fire walk, the Healthy University) • Mentored by senior students
The First 30 weeks • Established a home (thanks to BCUSU) • Built the Graduate+ website >4, 736 students registered >2, 700 students completed Potential. ly self development tool >876 registered Rosetta Stone language e-course >586 students already completed Bronze award >3000 students registered on Graduate+ Info portal Weekly Newsletter
2017 and beyond • Target of 5000 students by July 2017 (12, 000 2019) • HEAR recognition for students (2018) • HEA accreditation of Graduate+ (2017) • Development of credit bearing optional modules – languages, civic engagement and Graduate+ reflections (2017) • Curriculum integration and develop core package that can be available to all programmes • Explore employer liaison and targeted recruitment
