Key Vocabulary Isosceles Hypotenuse Side Angle Opposite Right angle Obtuse Acute Reflex
How to identify angles There are 4 types of angle you need to learn: Right Angle 90 o Has a square in the angle. Acute Angle <90 o Obtuse Angle >90 o and <180 o Reflex Angle >180 o
How to label triangles There are different types of triangle you need to know: Right Angle triangle Equilateral triangle – all sides and all angles are equal. Isosceles triangle 2 sides and 2 angles are equal – the equal sides have a dash on both to show this. Scalene triangle – none of the sides or angles are equal.
Example What type of triangle is this? There are not any sides or angles the same and there is not a right angle. So this must be a scalene triangle 7 cm 38 o 76 o 6 cm
Practice Name the type of angle or triangle that each of these diagrams show. There may be more than one answer needed for some. 1) o 38 6 cm 9 cm 1) Scalene 120 o 2) Isosceles 82 o 3) Right angle 3) 3 cm 2) 5 cm 4) Right angle and Scalene 12 cm 4) 7 cm 4 cm
Reasoning. Is it possible to have an isosceles triangle that is also a right angle triangle? How many different versions of this are possible. Yes – there is only 1 possible version of this and the angles are 90 o, 45 o and 45 o. However, you can have bigger or smaller versions of it!
